6. Challenge

  • VIAC, the VisLab Intercontinental Autonomous Challenge, is the challenge conceived by VisLab as an extreme test of autonomous vehicles. It ran from July 26, 2010 to October 28, 2010, involving four driverless vehicles driving with virtually no human intervention on a 15,000 km trip from Parma, Italy to Shanghai, China; Alberto Broggi, VIAC Autonomous Navigation, Organizer: A.   • NiSIS International Competition 2007: Analysis and Classification of the DaimlerChrysler Automotive Dataset Images Award November 20, 2007 NiSIS (Nature-inspired Smart Information Systems) awarded as a winner in the NiSIS competition 2007, Luciano Oliveira, Urbano Nunes, and Paulo Peixoto, for their solution "Scheme of Primate's Visual Cortex Cells for Pedestrian Recognition" (the developed model got the best accurary result)

  • First Asia-Europe Symposium on Intelligent Vehicles Event -Symposium May 22, 2007,  Shanghai Contact Information: Ming Yang (mingyang at sjtu dot edu dot cn) The First Asia-Europe International Symposium on Intelligent Vehicle will be held on May 22-24, 2007 at Shanghai Oriental Land, Shanghai. This symposium is organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and supported by EU Asia-IT&C Programme CyberC3 Project, French-Asia ICT Programme FACT Project and Shanghai Oriental Land. More than 100 participants from China, France, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Singapore, Korea, Japan, etc., are expected to attend the symposium. The main aims of this symposium are to exchange new idea and the latest research results in the field of intelligent vehicles, to explore development and application perspective of Cybernetic Transport System in Asia and Europe, and to promote further technology exchange and friendly cooperation among Asia-Europe collaborators. During the three-day symposium, the CyberC3 Driverless System, which isdeveloped under close cooperation among Asian and European researchers will be demonstrated with some other demonstration by partners from the CyberC3 Project and the FACT project.   • Grand Challenge 2005 - Vislab participation Competition September 10, 2005 - USA Contact Information: Alberto Broggi The VisLab research group (Univ of Parma, Italy) participated with a great success to the Grand Challenge. They were part of the TerraMax team, the only team which fielded a truck and was able to have it reach the finish line! VisLab designed the vision system for this truck, based on a trinocular system. The TerraMax vehicle was the only vehicle which reached the finish line using vision as its primary sensor.
